Lindsay Langill  Dean, School of Trades and Technology, Thompson Rivers University

KeynoteLindsay holds a 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate of Qualification along with Red Seal certifications in Millwright, Welder and Pipefitting.  He completed both his Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts degrees at the University of British Columbia, and has studied at the University of London, England and University of Oregon. 

His teaching career in the area of Technology Education began in the Langley School District in 1988, spending most of his time teaching Electronics. He also served on the BCTEA Executive for 20 years and as President for 6 of those years.   Lindsay has been a teacher and administrator in the K-12 system before joining the Ministry of Education to work on the development of the Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA)  and ACE-IT programs. Lindsay left the Ministry in 2005 to join the newly forming Industry Training Authority as Director of Red Seal programs and later Senior Lead of Program Standards.  He led numerous provincial and national initiatives while at the ITA. 

In 2006 he co-authored the research document “Alternate Methods of Trades Training:  Best Practices from across Canada”.  Following this, he took the lead in commissioning BC’s first Mobile Trades Training unit, “Trades Routes”. 

Currently, Lindsay is the Dean of the School of Trades and Technology at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. As well, he is a Doctoral candidate at the University of Calgary. He currently serves on the board of governors to both Skills Canada BC and British Columbia Aboriginal Mine Training Association.  He has been the recipient of many awards most notably the Prime Minister of Canada Teaching Excellence Award.  Lindsay lives in Kamloops with his wife Tammy and their three teenage children.
