Skills Exploration

The new Skills Exploration 10 -12 (STX) course has been produced by the Ministry of Education with consultation from the Industry Training Authority (ITA) and BC educators. The rationale is to expose youth to a variety of in demand trades so they can make a more informed decision if interested in taking an ACE IT program, or to assist in preparation for SSA. Statistics have shown that a low percentage of ACEIT students actually follow through to complete Red Seal certification. The hope is that with taking a course like STX, youth will be better able to make an informed decision regarding a career in the trades. It has been said that ACE IT programs should not be used as an exploratory program for students. The intention of this course is to provide students with a trades sampler so that the ACE-It courses can be reserved by students that are the most likely to go on to earn a Red Seal certification.

The following two documents are to help people with understanding the complete rationale behind the
course and to assist in setting up the course at a school. The spreadsheet contains a breakdown of costs for materials and equipment to potentially run the course.
