Industry Training Authority (ITA) and the Ministry of Education want to help school districts expand the Youth Explore Trades Skills (formerly known as Skills Exploration) program. Technology Education teachers are the key to this program’s success and having skilled teachers is the cornerstone. ITA and the Ministry of Education are funding a 4 day workshop from Tuesday July 18th to Friday July 21, 2017 hosted by British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). The workshop will cover carpentry, electrical and plumbing modules with extensive hands-on focus. The workshop will be facilitated by certified Tech-Ed teachers with relevant trades experience. The workshop goal is to provide Tech-Ed teachers the essential skills and knowledge to teach the Youth Explore Trades Skills curriculum within their district.
This workshop is only available to Technology Education teachers who have completed a recognized technology education program. Participants are expected to provide their own CSA approved steel toe boots and safety glasses.
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
-Select and use personal protective equipment
-Select and demonstrate safe use of hand and power tools
-Select materials for wood frame construction
-Construct floors, support systems and wood frame walls
-Rough-in residential electrical systems
-Rough-in residential plumbing systems
-Install residential plumbing fixtures
